Feedback on our roughage.

We did it. It was solid.

We got some feedback from our class.

In terms of camerawork, a lot of people liked the shots we took, but felt that it would benefit from a larger variety of shots of Neil singing. Apparently the fish eye lens was pretty ace. We agree. We can't really go out and film more shots of Neil singing because we can't get hold of the studio again, which is a shame. We could add more shots from a different location but that would look a bit cheap.
Apparantley the transitions between Christopher and the band were good, but the whole Christopher section was a bit random. I suppose it is a bit random, but we wanted an element of the surreal to it, plus we felt that the song didn't lend itself too wall to a narrative, especially as it is such a short song.

Apparently the pace was good, and the cuts were clean. As a group, we did however decide that certain sections of the video would be improved by some more fast cuts.
We were told that the sped up section of the video was cool. Thanks.
We agreed with many people that the shots of the band need to be made brighter. We are currently increasing the white balance and the saturation in the band shots, this should brighten the tone of the band shots and add far more colour. It does make them look a bit grainy, but it looks quite cool, it gives it a more of a sense of life. According to T2-53, it would give it some 'Pazaz'.

There was very little discussion on the mise-en-scene; but the word on the street is that it was pretty cool (and my shoes are cool). I can dig that baby.

Most people seemed to like the radio intro too; we need to sort the levels of the volume for the distances of different shots to give it the sense that it is proper diagetic sound though.

VIdeo! evaluation.

We filmed our video! It was mostly succesful. We didn't feel the need to bring our shot list and storyboard, as we decided that we would benefit from a more organic and spontaneous feel. They weren't really a necesity anyway; as the shots we wanted to take were all fairly generic band video style shots of pans, close ups on instruments and close ups on the singer. And most of the effects we needed to achieve, we can do in the editing process: we just wanted to get enough footage to have a varied choice from. We shot the song twice at half speed and at full speed three times so that we could rule out any anomalies in the performances. Shamefuly, we could not film in the larger studio, as it was buisy, so we couldn't film the cut-aways of the band on the sofa. If we are lacking footage for the rough cut, we could allways go and film the bits on the sofa in a different location, wearing the same clothes etc...
I was slightly dissapointed with the studio itself as it wasn't exactly the most visualy engaging setting. Looking at the footage, it was also a bit too dark, we can fix this in final cut though by adjusting the levels of colour and saturation, or use it to add to the slightly monochromatic tone of the song.

The Christopher segment of the shoot was limited as we ran out of time with the camera. The dificulty with filming more is that the weather was incredible on the day of the shoot, so adding more shots from a later date could prove to be a continuity problem, as we have recently descended into the drizzly depths of autumn. We could, however do more shots of Christopher inside, such as; running through corridoors, bursting through doors, climbing over furniature etc.

working on the music video

Overall i think the filming of are music video for Dead 60s - riot radio was successful, we had organised to hire out a recording studio room, in Cambridge called Mullet Boy Studios (New Market Road) we paid for 2 hours use of the studio. We used this time to film our music video inside the studio. After our two hours had ended when went to locations in Cambridge which we were going to film more sequences for the final video.

After the studio our next location was the area outside the Grafton Center, were the character in the video searching for the band seeks them out after hearing of their where abouts on the radio. His search begins on top of a multi story car park, where he is sitting, wearing a high visibility jacket he appears as someone working there, as a caretaker or cleaner.
A series of different types of shots were used to show his were abouts. With long and wide shots to show were he was, and close ups and medium shots to show his surprised expression upon hearing about the band (excited and eager to find them). A series of props were used, such as a radio player and the work-mans jacket to make the video seem more realistic and give more of a story to how the video turned out.

The majority of the studio footage was shot using a semi-fish eye lens, this made the camera angles wider and allowed more to be visible in the shot. For the outdoor sequences we used a normal camera lens, this allowed us to film from a distance for establishing shots and also gave us the opportunity to zoom in for certain sequences.

We made a shot list which was in order of what sequences would be filmed and when. The shot list included what type of shot we would use (i.e long shots, medium close ups) what would be taking places at the shot and the shots location.

We used a selection of different ways of filming, the hand held camera and also still tripod shots to add variety to the cinematography and stylized shaky camera shot.

The shots that worked best were the stylized shaky camera shot because they gave the impression of a lot of hurried movement, the close ups on the microphone emphasised the importance of the vocals.

We don't feel there was anything we could have done differently and are all pleased with the outcome so far, but a bit more time in the studio could have given us the opportunity for more run throes of the band performance, the performances were shot in a series of different speeds and we could have maybe tried some different effects to add variety.

More photos proving how ace we are

From the studio segment of the filming. Most of them have little relevance to the film but hey.

Shake ya' rudebox!

We went filming! Fun ensued...

What did we say! rooftops are wicked (ignore any previous posts saying otherwise). We most certainly are hip to the groove.

Here are some piccy pics of the Christopher segment of the shoot.

Roofs are passe

We are not going to use the roof, no matter how bitchin' it would be. The skylight to the roof, through which we would be taking all our stuff cannot fit a bass drum through. Bum Nuggets.

Instead, we are going to film in a studio. There are some obvious changes that we'll need to make, the band are now going to be performing in the studio. Christopher will no longer be searching for the rooftop, he will be running to the studio. This also works with the radio element, cos it looks like it's filmed in a radio studio. This also gives more room for maneuver with cool studio shots. We could use a fish eye lens. That would be cool.
To give the studio we would be playing in the look of a large radio station, we will film christopher running up to a larger, more impressive building, then cut to him running into the empty mulletboy studio; the outside of which looks rubbish.

We are cool cats

Yea yea. We are such a flock of knobheads. This looks a bit rubbish, but we needed to do test footage. The jilted effect looks quite cool, but we will need to keep the camera on the tripod, as speeding the footage up pronounces the shaking of the camera.
