GROUP 54: Music Video 2007/8

Thursday, 27 September 2007

Last year were good, but we are kingly.

This is quite a nice video. The use of cuts and layering is used very well, especialy with the guy in the background. This also shows the importance of propperly lip-syncing, and how a video can be let down quite easily. It's very easy to not give an emotive enough performance and find that the visuals don't match very well with the audio.
The sterile background and good use of depth and shadow help to add to the minimal tone of the song.

The use of close ups on the instruments were also very effective.

The matching haircuts were a nice touch.

The Engineers

For a music video we need a band... ah! and we have one! They are called 'The engineers'

Not quite the Dead 60s but good enough.

The Dead 60s 'Riot Radio' lyrics!!!

Airwaves beam from the light on the tower
Get my kicks from your eleventh hour
Won't you gimme some more
Riot on the radio
Burning up say my mind's on fire
A talk talk speaker on the end of the wire
You know it cancelled it out
Riot on the radio
You know it's turning me on
Riot on the radio

Yaow ow ow aow

Airwaves beam from the light on the tower
Get my kicks from your eleventh hour
Won't you gimme some more
Riot on the radio

You know it's turning me on
Riot on the radio
Riot, Riot!
Won't you gimme some more!
Riot, Riot!

The Dead 60s

Looks like we're using the Dead 60s now. Yes.

They're hip happenin' and know where it's at. We must have them.

'Riot radio' is an agressive, angular and high paced Dub Punk tune. It's wicked.

Very inner-city, very Brittish and very northern. Tony Wilson would be proud. Fab.

Our Sequence!!

We have a very good idea of stucture for our sequence! No dought our ideas will evolve to be more complex and effective as we move further towards the shoot but this is a rough idea of what we are intending to do.

our video will have a short sequence at the start, maybe about 15 seconds long, introducing our character (who will be known as Christopher) who is trying to find the band! christopher will be tall, dark and handsome. he will also be in dark clothing as if he was a bangin top spy in a previous existance and hasnt really moved on yet. he will appear on top of the grafton carpark. we will take lots of shots with him holding up binoculars and close-ups of his eyes making it appear quite novelty! then we intend to take 3 shots of our roof top from different distances! one far away, another one closer and then one from the actual roof top. we intend to edit these shots together to make it appear the camera is rushing towards the band!
then throughout the sequence there will be fast cuts between christopher and the band, until the end where christopher will see the band on the roof and he will run up the stairs, climb through a vent onto the roof and the band will be have disappeared/capput/vamous../ gone!!

it will evolve into a creature of the day and we belive that this super suits the band and the song and will become a very effective music video for the masses.

BISH!!!

The Foxes, Pitchtastic

'Love Killer' by 'The Foxes' is a fast paced, tightly produced, high energy raucus indie track, for this reason we feel that it suits a fast paced editing style. We plan on using a variety of close ups of individual instruments, and the singer and long shots from a low angle, which will compliment our location.

The foxes are a british band, bearing a visual and musical style in keeping with the garage revival; matching suits, harmonies and heavy 60's influences, much like othe popular bands like 'The Hives' or 'The White Stripes' that is popular with indie kids.

Pitch it to me baby!

The video will start with the band on the roof, looking all cool and that. Throughout the video there is going to be an underlying narrative of a character trying to find the band. This will have a slight element of python-esque comic relief to it, using physical comedy heavily, cut together with close ups on his eyes used very expressivley.
The character will be chasing around various far fetched areas of cambridge, and will finaly end on the roof, but the band will be gone. For visual effect, we will slow the song to about half speed, film it mimed at that, and then speed it up in the edit to give it a cool jittered jangley effect.

Being as we are all a bunch of cool cats, the costuming should be no problem, we will shamlessley exploit indie fashion and it will fit perfectly with feel of the song!

Bosh!

Rooftops kick arse

Making Of Nojahoda Video

the editing and special effects used in nojahoda are well suited to the music and this video explains how they made the video and promblems they exoerienced along the way!!!!!!!!!!! YERRR!!!!!!!!!

Location!

Just like we promised! we have a location, a roof! (and it's wicked)  As always, test shots:

It's safe, easy to get to and we have permission to use it.

Test photos.

To try and get the right aesthetic style for the video, we took a couple of test shots. We thought that quite a modernist, surrealist look to the video would give it a bit of an edge.

Performance based videos!!!

This is The Foo Fighters video for 'monkey wrench'! this is a bangin example of a performance based video which gives us plenty of examples of how to use camera work, costumes, editing and colour throughout the video. another thing this video does is provide us with a visual narrative which tells a story! we are not looking to try and tell a story in our video but we are looking to use cut aways throughout our video that appear to make sense... but when u ask someone 'what happened?' they will go 'urm not really sure if im honest... But i reallllly enjoyed it!!!' cut aways will make the video hold our audience, give us more material/footage. this makes fast cuts possible and due to the high tempo of the song we think this is very important! overall cut aways will make our video more VISUALLY AESTHETIC!

Visual style

To create the proper effect we would need, we would have to record the band playing the song at about half speed and then speed it up.

As well as this we would need a substantial amount of cutaways. We are planning on using various close ups on individual instruments in this to give a sense of intimacy with the band that mirrors the close sound of the song.

Test!

Test shots are cool. Here's one we made earlier.

I just moved really slowly, then we sped it up a bit. It's amazingly simple to do, and gives quite a cool jittery effect too.

Time!

We decided that not only would it be mega cool to play with speeds in our video, but it would also look pretty bitchin'.

A nice example of this can be seen in 'intergalactic by the beastie boys.

This music video was an inspiration for are music video because it uses the technique of playing with speeds very effecively without making it look like it was badly produced. This is an effect we are going to use in our music video but feel if not done properly then that could bring down the performance of the video.

Super Furry Animals - Golden Retriever

A very nice example of speed manipulation, this however will have been achieved by adjusting the shutter speed.

Our Band! The Engineers!

The Engineers are a local band and are by far the BEST performance based band in THE WORLD! (execpt barbie and the plastics but they were unavailable on a thursday which would be inconvenient!... which is a shame).
the stage presence of The Engineers combined with our perfect minds focused on the subject of a perfect music video will achieve outstanding results. with our highly practised camera and editing skills we should prosecute our ideas with accuracy!

'Lover Killer' Lyrics!

if i told u that we were personally given them buuy the singer... THAT WOULD BE A LIE!!! so dont belive us... or... any other group (50) that they did!!! a source is a source ay!!!

"You come and see me when you’re all lost at sea,
I’d like to help you, but I’ve got to be free because,
I’ve got to get away from your heart.

You think you’re special like your old mums best china,
Yes, you’re hand painted and you think there’s no-one finer.
Oh, come, and take me away, to your heart.

I am your oxymoron doting lover killer,
‘Cos I’ve got to get away from your heart.
I’ve got to get away from you!
I’ve got to get away from your heart.

What will you do when there is no more superficial?
When men don’t stare at you and they don’t stop and whistle?
Oh, God, oh take me away, from your heart.

I am your oxymoron messed up lover killer.
And I’ve got to get away from your heart.
I’ve got to get away from you!
I’ve got to get away from your heart.

Help me to see I’m coming down, help me to see…."

The Foxes... BABY!!!!

This is a video of the foxes playing 'your fire' live!!!!
this shows us exactly what kind of band they are, their appearance/style and also how they perform on stage which is important because we are doing a performance based video. having an idea of what the band are link would help us decide on the attitudes and overall performance of our band we will be using!

Music Videos are wicked

Golima!

We have specifically decided to pitch for a song with a high tempo, this leaves us oppourtunities to create a wicked mad video with fast cutting, manipulation of speeds, clever camera work and editing.

We are going to pitch for 'Love Killer - The Foxes' and as a backup 'on sussex downs - large love'.

As we learned from our jazztastic thriller, the location of the shoot is integral to the mood and tone of the film. For this reason we would prefer to shoot in a large location with a slightly urban feel such as a warehouse or a rooftop. This would also give the video the feel of geurilla gigging as it would be a performance based video.

We feel we can execute this well beond the capabilities of anyone else because we are wizzards.

Lots of love; Neil, Ramiz and Tom. I hope all is well,

p.s. Remember to feed the cat while i'm away.
